HELEN Mason and Michele Hillman from the Aberdare have recently (September, 2017) been promoted to Regional Managers at an award-winning care company in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT).

Previously the pair both worked as Community Carers for Abacare but will now go on to be responsible for the supervision of staff, monitoring the quality of care being delivered, carrying out initial assessments for new care packages and writing service delivery plans.

Fourty-six-year-old Helen, who will manage the Taff/Rhondda area, said: “I am over the moon to have been promoted to Regional Manager. While I really enjoyed working as a carer out in the field and looking after lots of lovely service users, I felt it was definitely time for a change and I am thrilled that I have been able to remain within the company and advance my career.

“I will still be in touch with other staff members and service users on a regular basis and I am looking forward to the different challenges my new position will bring.”

In her spare time, Helen enjoys spending time with her three young grandsons.

Fifty-year-old Michele, who will manage the Uchaf (Upper Aberdare) area, said: “I am thrilled with my new position at Abacare and am looking forward to overseeing the smooth running of our care services in the Uchaf area.

“As I worked as a carer before this I have a real understanding of what support they need in their job and feel this will really help in my new position.”

When she’s not working, Michele enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person centred care to people throughout Wales.

Sarah Williams, Registered Manager at Abacare, said: “We’d like to say a huge ‘congratulations’ to Helen and Michele on their promotions, they are both extremely deserving of their new positions. Both ladies have worked tirelessly as carers, looking after many of our service users and it is great to see them both move up the career ladder and take on the reigns of a different aspect of the care industry.

“As they both have experience in care they will be able to relate to the staff members who look after our service users. They both have an excellent understanding of what carers need and how they need to be managed. It will be great to see both ladies blossom in their new roles.

“Promoting staff within the company helps maintain a position of trust and allows continuity of care for our service users. These new Regional Managers will already have great relationships with our service users, which will allow them to introduce the replacement carers to them without any problems.

“When recruiting new staff we actively search for candidates that understand they need to be committed to the sector and open to the fact that service users wish to form friendships with their carers as they are allowing them into the privacy of their homes. Serving rural communities and having great carer and service user relationships is what gives Abacare its Welsh rural touch.”

Abacare’s core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ wellbeing’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.

It believes it offers inspiring work for inspirational people.
