The elderly are some of the most vulnerable when it comes to falling for scams and being a victim to fraudsters so we’ve put together a helpful guide that you can use or pass on to any elderly people you might know.
- Always be suspicious
If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Always check credentials of any company and individual. If this isn’t possible to do yourself then ask a family member or friend. If you have any hesitations at all then don’t go any further with the call or conversation.
- Never give out bank or personal details
However you are approached, whether it’s via telephone, online or via someone at your doorstep, never give your bank details or any other personal details.
- Ignore unsolicited texts or emails
Unsolicited texts asking about an accident or PPI and emails requesting money be sent abroad are becoming a regular occurrence for mobile and internet users. Ignore and delete immediately.
You can register phones via the Telephone Preference Service and stop unwanted mail via the Mail Protection Service.
