We recently gave you some of our top suggestions for gift ideas for Father’s Day, but if you’d rather take your dad out and spend some quality time together, then here are our ideas for activities you can do together:
Your dad will no doubt appreciate spending some quality time with you over receiving a gift, so why not treat him to a day out? You can’t go wrong with a day at a National Trust Property or RHS garden or you could try a local car show or visit galleries or museums if there’s something your dad is particularly interested in.
Go for a walk
If your dad isn’t up to a full day out then a short walk is a great idea and is a good way to get him up and out of the house, breathing in some fresh air and doing some exercise. You can read all about the benefits of walking for the elderly here.
Cook lunch or dinner together
Getting together for a family meal is another great way of getting some much needed quality time in. You can also get your dad involved in the cooking process to help him feel more involved.
Listen to music
Dig out dad’s old records and have a listen together. It is a great way for him to be able to reminisce and you will no doubt hear some fantastic stories about his younger years and the music he loved.
Fishing is a great activity to with your dad on Father’s Day as it is low impact and can be social and peaceful at the same time, while allowing you both to bond and spend quality time together. Seek out the local fishing spots, pack up a picnic and set off. Be sure to take comfortable seating, a hat and sun cream for dad too if the weather is particularly warm.
