Abacare bear finds forever home with Charlotte

CHARLOTTE Smith from Warrington won a giant teddy bear from a Welsh care provider recently (August, 2017) after entering a raffle and helped raise money for charity at the same time.

Abacare raffled off the giant bear at the Anglesey Show and raised £136.50 from ticket sales for Hospice at Home Gwynedd & Anglesey.

Sixteen-year-old Charlotte said: “When I saw the giant bear on the Abacare stall at the show I just had to enter the raffle to try and win it. The money raised from the raffle ticket sales was going to a very worthy cause so I thought I would have a bit of fun and try my luck. I didn’t think I would go on to win so I was very surprised. The bear has taken pride of place in my house as Abacare’s aim is very special to me.”

Hospice at Home Gwynedd & Anglesey is a community focused charity that cares for patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses across Gwynedd and Anglesey. It differs from other hospice organisations in that 80% of the work it does is caring for people in their own homes.

The remaining 20% is made up from its work in its day hospice and its complementary therapy service.

The Anglesey Show is hosted by the Anglesey Agricultural Society and attracts more than 60,000 people. As well as animals and livestock, the show also has an exhibition pavilion, equestrian events, craft exhibitors and more.

As well as hosting the raffle, Abacare was at the show to talk to anyone interested in a career in care. Staff were on-hand to talk to attendees about the care industry and find potential new employees to fill its 50 vacancies.

Amanda Dingli, Recruitment and HR Officer at Abacare, said: “We’re thrilled for Charlotte for winning the bear and we’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who entered the raffle and helped raise money for Hospice at Home Gwynedd & Anglesey.

“We had a great time at the show and spoke to lots of people interested in joining our team. As our business continues to grow, we are actively seeking caring people to join our expanding team so anyone interested should get in touch. We’re looking for kind and caring individuals who are committed and potentially seeking a career in the industry with advancement opportunities.”

Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person centred care to people throughout Wales.

Amanda added: “Every successful applicant receives full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users.

“We also offer the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), formerly known as National Vocational Qualifications, to all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for all of our carers.

“Being reliable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential. Anyone interested in joining our award-winning team should get in touch by calling 01248 677919.”
